I'm Mike — a Computer Science teacher based in Thailand, with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, an iPGCE, and a Thai teaching license. I've been teaching Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science for over 10 years and AS/A Level for the past four, and I've completed both the Cambridge Basic and Advanced Teaching courses.
Before moving into education, I spent more than 20 years in industry — working as a Business Analyst at Intel, in broadband and networking at Virgin Media, and as an IT Manager for a communications company. I've also run my own training and consultancy business in the UK, delivering adult computing skills courses. I moved to Thailand at the end of 2015 and haven't looked back.
What this site is for
Techie Mike is a resource for Cambridge IGCSE and A Level Computer Science students, as well as anyone who enjoys getting hands-on with Linux, Python, homelabs, and self-hosted tech. You'll find detailed past paper walkthroughs, topic-by-topic revision guides, and practical tutorials drawn directly from what I teach in the classroom.
Everything here comes from real classroom experience — I write about what actually helps students understand and pass their exams, not just what looks good on paper.
Background
I originally got into technology through microelectronics — designing and building motherboards — before discovering how much you could do with software. After several years travelling, I completed my Computer Science and Engineering degree in 2010 and went on to run Saunders IT Solutions, providing IT training and consultancy across South Wales. Teaching brought me back to what I love most: making complex technical ideas click for people who are just getting started.
